Storyteliing is coming to VCC

Do you remember Naomi, the story teller? If you’d like to work on your storytelling with other students and teachers, this is a unique opportunity. Check it out.

ELEMENTAL:waterOn the November full moon, please join us for the beginning of a 5 week storytelling workshop series co-sponsored by the Vancouver Society of Storytelling (VSOS) (www.vancouverstorytelling.orgncouverstorytelling.org>) and Vancouver Community College (http://www.vcc.ca/), working closely with the ESL department and Aboriginal Education and Services department.November 10 – December 15
Thursdays, 3-6 pm
Room 1228, Broadway Campus

Participants are invited to bring a “water” story of their choosing to the workshop. There will also be folk and fairytale resources provided. After listening to and being inspired by world-class storytellers, we will explore our own stories through group and individual exercises. After the workshops, participants will be better able to tell a story, thus contributing to their chosen communities through increased language and performance skills.

By bringing careful consideration to the location of VCC on the False Creek Flats while facilitating connection between new immigrants and First Nations, the VSOS is fostering an understanding the land’s historical, geographic, political, peopled and wild narrative.

Following the story-sharing and performance workshops, a book/artefact will be made, serving as a tangible trace of the stories. Both the workshops and the performance will be a wonderful networking opportunity as participants will be invited to share their stories at the 19th Vancouver International Storytelling Festival, June 2012.
